Cleaning Spree!!!!

So the past few days I have been working on getting my house back together. Cleaning out closets, mopping floors, shampooing carpets, vacuuming couches and vents, etc. As I was doing so it came to mind that not many peoapl kow how to clean. Many people mistake "picking up" with cleaning. So i thought, "hey dummy why not write about something I do everyday and at the same time teach." so here is what I came up with...

1.) MAKE YOUR BED!!!!
“What’s the point, I’m just going to mess it up again at night,” or “Who has time? It’s just another inconvenience,” and “I don’t mind – I never see that room again until the end of the day.” If you are one of those people, a study done by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) suggest that people sleep much better when their bedrooms are comfortable and clean. Making your bed could be just what you need to truly relax so you can wake up feeling refreshed each morning.

2.) Manage Clutter
If you are always on the go this does not have to take long at all. Managing clutter can simply mean reseting your home. In other words, each morning, afternoon, or evening take alook around your house and straighten books and knickknacks, return dishes to the kitchen, and hang up jackets. Don’t strive for perfection, this is just a quick pick up.

3.)Never leave a room empty handed
Everytime I think about this comment I hear my mother's voice in my head sayin it over ad over and over again. Or never go up/down the stairs empty handed. As much as this annoys the living Hell out of me, it is very true.

4.)When your done with something, put it away
This is another "annoying mother comment" but very true. "A place for everything and everything in its place."-Samuel Smiles Clutter arises when we take something out, use it for awhile and neglect to return it to its proper home.

5.) Clean as you cook
My alltime favorite. I do this withot even thinking, unless I am just getting out of class and hove done my thinking for the day. I can not cook in a messy kitchen...I can but I do not like it. Start cooking in a clean kitchen and prepare to make a mess. It is almost impossible to not make a mess if you are going to cook. Before you start, clean the dishes and wash the counters. As you go, you will have a clear sink so you can wash and dry and put away. When dinner is done, all you have to worry about are the dishes you used to eat off of and they can be put in the dishwasher or handwashed quick and put away.

6.) Take out the garbage
This is something I am still working on and Wayne gets on my all of the time about. Everynight, even if it is not garbage night, take out the garbage and put it in the bin. This not only take car of clutter but the smell as well.

This is just an everyday checklist that should be done.
There are many sites out there that are extremely helpful if you are trying to get back into routine or trying to get some cleaning done. My favorite is Martha Stewart.

I have my own binder with a checklist for cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, and everything else. It is ok to have a reminder.

  1. My bedroom is a mess! I need to clean it so badly. However, I refuse to make my bed fully. One of the most influential teachers I have ever had gave us a lecture about how useless it is to make beds. It takes time away from valuable reading or thinking about gravity and stars....he was a physics teacher.
